On March 27, 2026, the Senate passed a bipartisan bill to reopen most of Homeland Security. Huizenga voted to throw it out. On March 31 he turned up in a tourist photo at Edinburgh Castle. On April 30 the House gave up and passed the Senate's bill anyway — 34 days later, one day before the Coast Guard would have run out of money to pay its people.
